International Museum Day

18 May is International Museum Day

Learn more here.

I love museums, and visit them whenever I can, and wherever I roam.

Today on Caturday, I present a sampling of my photos; there is always something wonderful to see and learn from.

On Woodward

 Woodward Dream Cruise

Wikipedia Woodward Dream Cruise

Every year, The Woodward Dream Cruise draws millions of spectators, who immerse themselves in all things automotive.

Detroit is the Motor City, so why not have a car cruise that has a 16-mile-plus radius?

Plus, many more classic and impressive vehicles sit on the sidelines, showing off as aficionados stroll by.

The Hubby's favorite car this year: AMX Javelin

My favorite: A white Maserati.

Dear Friends

Am I lucky to have friends who loan me their cats...er, um, well...pictures of their cats?

YES!

Am thankful for each one, so here is a list from yesterday's "Kiss A Ginger" post, with a short history of my dear friends:

Eric, who owns ET in British Columbia, Canada.
Eric's brofur, Angel Sparky, left us not long ago; they were a matched set!
I met ET on FB as we are cat people who love art, and the silliest memes available.
We have plans to travel around the world together, when the world stops wanting to kill us.
Mango, Rusty, Skittles, and Sassy boss around P&M in Florida.
I met P&M when a stray cat was found in the office parking lot, and they volunteered to care for him on the weekends.
With their guidance and help, we trapped George, vetted him, and he lived out his life with a wonderful family.
P&M and I forged an unbreakable bond.

Rufus, one of six cats who are muses to an artist, and is the only cat on this post whom I've met (and petted, thankyouverymuch!)
CE is smart, talented, and is unafraid to show it.
Not only do I enjoy her company, her art, and her cats, but as a Master Gardener, she is helping me to transform Eastside Cats' yard into a Native Plant oasis for birds, bees, bugs, bats, and butterflies!
Click on the photo of Rufus above to visit her Black Cat Pottery website.  CE lives about 30 minutes away from us, in Detroit, Michigan.

Eddie, the love of RB's life, in Manchester, U.K.
Every day, Eddie discovers a new place to climb, a lap to snuggle in, or a TV program to enjoy with her human.
I met RB via ET (Eric's human above), and although in severely different time zones, we talk cat, sports, films, and Monty Python skits.

Kiss A Ginger Day!

January 12 is Kiss A Ginger Day!

For us, this means ginger or marmalade cats, also called red or yellow cats.

Alas, at this time, Eastside Cats has no resident ginger cats, however dear friends have loaned us theirs for today.

Meet:
Eric, in British Columbia
Mango, in Florida
Rusty, in Florida
Sassy, in Florida
Skittles, in Florida
Rufus, in Detroit
Eddie, in the UK
Hearty applause for our Ginger Gang, all with smoochies on their wee noggins!

Thankful Thursday: CatVideo Fest 2019!

Image from CatFest Video 2019 website
YAY!  CatVideo Fest 2019 is coming!  And, I've already purchased my ticket for the March 9 showing at the Detroit Film Theatre at the Detroit Institute of Arts!

In the past few years, there have been a few attempts at a cat video show in Metro Detroit, but they've each been cancelled.  I've wanted to attend one since they first began to exist; a collection of online cat videos that will charm the hearts of enthusiasts to no end.

Please go to http://www.catvideofest.com/ to find out if there is a showing near you!  Sorry, looks like it's only the USofA, but perhaps there are other versions in your particular country.

And yes, I am thankful CatVideo Fest 2019!  I plan to wear a pair of cat ears on my head...or maybe a wooly cat-eared hat, 'cause March in Michigan can be very cold.

Foggy Squirrel Appreciation

Okay, okay...Squirrel Appreciation Day was 1/21/17, which I knew nothing about until I read it on Cat Chat With Caren and Cody!

However, I just happened to have snapped photos of a black squirrel in our backyard, chomping down on something. I enjoy watching squirrels; they are so industrious, even a bit cheeky, and I ALWAYS brake for them when they are near the edge of the road.  We have grey, brown, and black-furred squirrels around us.  They tease the cats, and have thrown things at the humans!

We experienced heavy fog most of the day on Saturday, and ALL DAY on Sunday!  It was quite spectacular, but I know there were auto accidents because of the limited visibility, so that isn't good.

Here are some photos taken in downtown Detroit, through that crazy fog.

The Hubby and I attended the North American Auto Show (website here).  You all know that Detroit and Michigan are home to some pretty large automotive companies, so we go all out for car shows!

Minibar's Mom!

Jackson Galaxy, the self-proclaimed Cat Daddy, has a television show that airs on Animal Planet: see info here.  I have been a faithful viewer since the program began in 2011.  The premise: people have a cat whose behavior is making their human family crazy.  One early episode ("Wildcat! originally aired May 21, 2011) has always stuck out in my mind; that of kitten Minibar, who was too feral and unsocial for her owners, Carre and Brian.
Jackson in glasses, Carre and Brian.
Jackson Galaxy helped the couple find ways to encourage Minibar to come out from under the furniture, with play and better access to litter boxes.  By episode end, Carre and Minibar had truly bonded together, even after a chase through a studio full of wood, shelving and tools!

Imagine my surprise, while watching a brand new show this weekend (you see how I waste my time?) on the DYI Network, entitled "Sight Unseen".  A California couple of Carre' Calloway and Wes Borland purchase an old mansion in Detroit, Michigan without actually visiting it first, and the episodes follow them as they renovate a once luxurious home.  More info can be found here.
The mansion

Wes and Carre'
Imagine my surprise when I recognised Minibar's mom!  Yep, the Carre from 2011 and Carre' from 2016 are the same person!  And it turns out, Wes Borland is pretty famous for his guitar music with the band Limp Bizkit, and Carre' is Queen Kwong, an indie rock band.

The Hubby was fairly impressed that I had remembered her face after all this time, and research on the internet then gave me the answers, (and all of these photos!)  Cats were mentioned in an episode of "Sight Unseen" but no cats were actually on camera, darn it.

So, how cool is this?  Well, I don't know how cool it is, but I do know that this couple is severely pro-animal, they like cats, and they like Detroit. Makes them A-OK in my book, since I've lived in Metro-Detroit for my whole life, I'm vegan, and you KNOW that I lurv my kitties!
