Flashback to May 2006

Chucky, enjoying the futon and a piece of sleeping bag tie

Angel is the bathroom sink
On May 4, 2006, Angel and Chuck were not quite two years old.  The Hubby and I were still novice cat humans, but we had all settled into a good routine.  Chuck routinely chewed anything stringy, such as the tie up cords on our sleeping bags, window blind cords, and the ties on my pajama bottoms.  Angel was always our quiet one, routinely staying in the corners and underneath dressers.  To find her boldly enjoying the sink was a photo-worthy occasion!

Looking at these images, I see that both cats were already a bit chunky; we fed them only kibble at this time.  After Chuck had urine crystals, ate a rope toy that he almost had to have surgery to remove, and then scooting his butt on the floor (because he was too fat to lick down there!), we switched to them to canned food.  Kibble now is only for The 'O' Cats in the winter, when wet food freezes.

I look at Chuck, and hope he is happy with our twin mancats, who were adopted in his image.

  1. I love seeing those two precious family members. I made lots of mistakes when we first had cats. Oh they were fed, watered, cherished...literally cherished . But we fed the wrong things in the wrong containers, and didn't do this and that..just not the way to learn, but learn we sure did. The thing that helps me now when I look back was that they were loved so much. They had vet care and shots, love and everything else, but..there were many things we didn't know.

  2. Pie was scooting this week. UGh. she eats wet and dry. Not sure why she did this. Last time her glands were not even full......hmmmm. Ideas?

    1. This is the same thing that happened to Chuck...he scooted because he was too fat to clean his butt. He and Angel lost weight when we cut OFF kibble; it's carb loaded. Of course, you may want your vet's advice; I'm reporting on what worked for us. Good luck!

  6. What makes a good cat (or pet) parent is someone who wants to learn what is best for their furbaby. You definitely are that! Nice to see both Chucky and Angel in younger days.

  7. Experience... Comes from learning as we go. Clearly you have learned your lessons well. You are both excellent cat pawrents now.

  9. They may be chunky in those photos, but you can tell they are loved - which is the only thing that matters anyway. Beautiful memories, thanks for sharing.
