22 May 1859 – 7 July 1930 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Legendary creator of the Sherlock Holmes character |
I've been a fan of Sherlock Holmes since a child.
However, in today's world, the Victorian-era stories are sometimes ponderous, archaic, and often racist, even if ripping good mysteries.
What one enjoys, is the brilliance and antics of the great consulting detective.
These days, I enjoy the pastiche stories of The Mary Russell series, written by Laurie R. King.
If you think Holmes was brilliant, wait to you are introduced to Mary!
I collect items that are a mix of that great detective, and cats!

Oh, boy, you made mama’s day. She’s reading Jacqueline Windspear’s Maisie Dobbs series, which she says is elegant, mysterious, and just plain wonderful as a series (read in order!) but now she is off to find Mary Russell. MERCI!
ReplyDeleteDad really enjoys Arthur Conan Doyle and we must remember that his writing is in the style and flavor of his time. We feel it is timeless. Dad also likes the different Sherlock Holmes character and the adaptations of the stories. He has all of Jeremy Brett, Basil Rathbone and of course Benedict Cumberbatch. There were many more including Robert Downey Jr who did a fair job. Purrs
