Vincent van Gogh's Birthday

Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who posthumously became one of the most famous and influential figures in Western art history.

In a decade, he created about 2,100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of which date from the last two years of his life.

Born: March 30, 1853, Zundert, Netherlands
Died: July 29, 1890, Auvers-sur-Oise, France

Periods: Post-Impressionism, Pointillism, Neo-Impressionism

And the subject of some comedy...

Am quite thankful for the colors, the talent, the detail that we all find in Vincent's works.

  4. I am quite familiar with Van Gogh, and I adore those puns. Right up my alley! Starry Night is so classic that it's identfiable at a glance. Vincent was quite the character and, as is common for someone of his genius, he suffered greatly for it. We, on the other hand, are the beneficiaries.

  5. Too funny. On the more serious side, extraordinary artist, sad and troubled life, gone too soon. Recognized too late.

  7. One of our Mom's favorite painters. He truly was one of a kind. Cute comedy - In France they pronounce his last name as "Goff" rather than "Go". It was so weird hearing it that way :-).

  11. I like his paintings. One of my favorite episodes of Dr Who was the Van Gogh episode with the 11th doctor. (sigh-I know that makes me sound geeky!)
