We Can Do Better

October 4 is World Animal Day, raising the status of animals to improve welfare standards around the globe.

For Caturday, this image of Sly was just too good to pass up!

I only added a soft vignette to put the emphasis on those fantastic green eyes.

Last night, I learned that a neighbor has been feeding a juvenile raccoon for months.

She said there were two small raccoons without a parent in that tree, and now only one appears for meals.

Raccoons are a native species to Michigan, but are not endangered.

In general, any wildlife can be harmed by becoming acclimated to humans, which is NOT the goal of World Animal Day.

And yet, anyone reading this post is an animal lover, and will go to great lengths to help any critter.

The world is a huge place, so being kind to all of the creatures, great and small, can only be a good thing.

World Animal Day

MISSION OF WORLD ANIMAL DAY

To raise the status of animals in order to improve welfare standards around the globe.

Building the celebration of World Animal Day unites the animal welfare movement, mobilizing it into a global force to make the world a better place for all animals.

It's celebrated in different ways in every country, irrespective of nationality, religion, faith or political ideology.

Through increased awareness and education we can create a world where animals are always recognized as sentient beings and full regard is always paid to their welfare.

One of our choices for helping animals:

Planting native-to-Midwest plants.

Native plants and native animals evolved together, and are co-dependent.

My gardens attract bees, birds, and bats.

We don't use pesticides.

Virginia Bluebells, in early Spring
Wild Petunia, in early Summer
Hyssop in Autumn

Be nice to Mother Nature and all of her children.

Don't buy furs or give your business to any company that promotes the fur trade.
