Feeling Ducky

Yesterday, while on my 'hood walk, a male Mallard Duck greeted me as a strode past.

Of course, I stopped immediately, and cooed at Mr. Duck.

My neighbor, seeing my conversation, told me that Mr. and Mrs. Duck had been visiting her yard for years, and she'd filled a blow-up kiddie pool with water for the pair to enjoy.

Not my image; found online.
Now that's my type of neighbor, who gives a handout...or a pool...to wildlife.

Wished I'd snapped a photo, and will probably go back to visit Mr. and Mrs. Duck someday soon.

Thankful for all who understand that humans aren't the only beings that need succor on This Earth.

#WorldAnimalDay

Raising the status of animals to improve welfare standards around the globe.

Last night, I learned that a neighbor has been feeding a juvenile raccoon for months.

She said there were two small raccoons without a parent in that tree, and now only one appears for meals.

Raccoons are a native species to Michigan, but are not endangered.

In general, any wildlife can be harmed by becoming acclimated to humans, which is NOT the goal of World Animal Day.

And yet, anyone reading this post is an animal lover, and will go to great lengths to help any critter.

The world is a huge place, so being kind to all of the creatures, great and small, can only be a good thing.

A Watcher

It's Caturday!

Using my trusty Prisma app, I artified a recent photo of a black cat in our neighbor's garden.

Almost Finished?

Sweetnesday!

Sweetie returns to the veterinarian tomorrow, and we all hope that she won't need any more antibiotic capsules!
She's keeping her eyes on me.
When Sweetie wakes me up in the middle of the night, it's because she sees critters moving around outside.
This is a rotten photo of what I saw this morning at 4 am; the groundhog and skunk have made trails for themselves from our neighbor's porch, over into our yard.
Don't think she isn't comfortable around here; she is!
And, this is what her kibble bowl looks like right now...I'm taking it as a sign that she's doing okay, despite our daily wrestling sessions when I push that capsule down her gullet.

I will report on what we learn at the vet's; I think it's time that veterinarian offices have a pub attached!

Lap Cat

Aries, my new lap cat!
Yep, who knew?  Aries, the neighbor's cat who now eats and sleeps on our backyard deck, is also my new lap cat!  No other kitty of our acquaintance will make use of human lap real estate, but Aries is a lover and gave me some purrs and pets.

See Patty photobombing Aries?
Patty O'Malley, of course, takes exception to any other cat receiving attention from me, and he manages to get in the way of photos or petting sessions when the mood is upon him.  Little Sweetie will give Patty a swat and a yowl, but she runs off out of range, and Aries turns his back of disdain to me, as a warning from getting too close or else Patty will break up the party!  As much as I've tried to put an end to this territorial display from Patty, he continues to do it and we all just have to live with it.

Freeloader

This is Aries, our neighbor's cat.  He's a nice boy, and he tends to hang out in our yard...especially at meal time.  I've posted before on how he begs for food, or tries to steal Patty O'Malley's and Sweetie's chow, and that I've decided to feed him a little bit of kibble in order to allow them to eat in peace.  Aries really is a good kitty, so payment of a few kibble here or there is a small price to pay for another cat to pet and snuggle!

This morning, he was late to the game, and Patty and Sweetie had gobbled up all of their for-cats-only tuna!  Aries sniffed the air, 'cause he knew there was some good smells, but that was all he got, because the 'O' cats had licked their bowls clean!  Snooze...ya lose!

Thief

This little missy steals food from Mama Mia and Patty O' daily!  She belongs to our neighbor's, and they let her out to roam.  She ends up in our yard, and she watches when I put out food for the 'o' cats.  If they don't eat it all, or if they take too long, she'll walk right up and growl until they back away from the bowls.  She's also chased Chuck a few times in the yard, and she growls when I get near.  I try to be nice, but she hisses and growls, and then steals the food!  Therefore, when I see her hangin' around, I chase her off.  I hate doing it, because I'm a lover, not a fighter.  But she always comes back.  Persistent little minx!

Cats Everywhere

Annabelle
Falling Asleep
Beau?  Buddy?
I visited my co-worker at her new home on Saturday, and got to meet her kittens in person.  My gosh, but they are bouncy!  The girl is Annabelle, but the boy is still un-named.  When I got home after enjoying kitten power for an hour, my quiet and sleepy middle-aged cats seemed almost comatose in comparison!

Sneakers
Sly
And then while on my evening walk, I came across these two handsome fellows: Sneakers and Sly.  Such sweethearts!  I saw them wandering in a front yard, and knelt down to speak to them.  Both just flopped on down for belly rubs!  Their human said she often wonders if someone will just walk away with them since they love everybody.  Gorgeous floofiness!

Friendly Neighborhood Tabby

Friendly Neighbor Cat
While on my evening walk, this handsome cat decided I was going to be a friend!  The cat meowed, rolled on the sidewalk, and let me scritch him under the chin.  I almost thought the cat wanted me as his new human!  But, after awhile, I started walking again and the cat did not follow.  Such a good-looking boy, almost a darker version of Patty O'Malley.

The Patster

Tabby's have such interesting stripes.   As you can see, Patty is golden brown compared to the Neighbor Cat's dark fur, plus he has marks on his cheeks that mimic the glare-reducing stuff that football players use.  I'm sure this cat belongs to someone; he was very friendly, and I have seen him in the area on a few occasions.  Sure was a pleasant interlude!
