#2 Friday the 13th

The second of three Friday the 13th's in 2026 is today!

2026: February, March, November

I don't have many superstitions, other than making sure I start new projects during a new moon, and end things on a full moon.

Will pay attention to my intuition, I pick up found coins as it's good luck, and accept coincidences as signs from the gods.

Comment if you have any myths or superstitions that you believe.

More Gifts

I removed my post for today, to share more 'hood gifts from this morning's walk
Peek!
Kittens
Often-seen stray
Nightfury
Boyfriend Sly
Although we are not experiencing the incredible heat as other parts of the world are, it's warm enough to avoid the afternoon and early evening.

When I can, I walk early, say around 8 or 9 am, then again after 7 pm.

Obviously, more kitties are out in the morning!

Note about the kittens:

A neighbor claims to practise TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return), and I offer to assist her with traps and the cost of neutering.

And yet, there always seems to be another batch of kittens.

I've been working with her for years, hoping she will allow me to help her, or to give me permission to trap all of the strays that she feeds to get them fixed.

So far, no luck.

However, if you know anything about me, I do NOT give up, especially when cats are involved.

Oh, The Cold!

As mentioned in yesterday's post, I am not a fan of Winter...and technically, it's not even here yet!

Perhaps worrying about The 'O' Cats for a decade pushed me farther into disliking cold and snow...?

Yet, I can pinpoint when I went from a kid growing up in Michigan (known as The Winter Wonderland), and dealing with the season, to an disgruntled denizen of The North.

That was a vacation visit to Florida one February.

Yep, I was spoiled from that point on.

The Hubby and I aren't moving any place warm, any time soon...unfortunately...so I found some terrific hoodies to keep me warm.
Went overboard a bit, as I was entranced with the plethora of fabulous black cat images.

Email me if you'd like information about the hoodies: on the right-hand column, down a bit, is a 'Contact Eastside Cats' form.

A Watcher

It's Caturday!

Using my trusty Prisma app, I artified a recent photo of a black cat in our neighbor's garden.

Next Door

There are always interesting critters in our next door neighbor's yard:
Bunny rabbit
Black cat
Groundhog, playing amongst the Halloween decorations.
Wonderfully ghoulish, no?

Wednesday Reading...um...Listening

Close up of front cover
Audiobook
Was at the library, looking over the shelves and found this, "Unlucky 13" by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro, and first published in 2014.  This is an audiobook on CD, and I'm listening to it in The Cat Car during my daily commutes.  I grabbed it because...well, duh...look at that beautiful black cat on the cover!

I am now on the third CD of nine, and it's a fairly interesting story, about San Francisco police officer and her friends who all pitch in to help solve mystery and murder.  No cat has appeared as a character or even living WITH a character yet.  Not what I've come to enjoy from James Patterson; it's kind of girly, in the way that MEN think women act, not the way we really do.  However, the underlying dilemmas are compelling, so I'll keep listening.  Also, I've randomly grabbed the 13th in the "Women's Murder Club" series, which is now on it's 16th book.

Goes to show, you should NOT judge a book by it's black cat cover!

I LURV BLACK CATS!

Ridgeback

Can you tell that I've been stroking my hand down Sweetie's back?  I took these photos to show; 1) that Sweetie gets as much lovin' from me as Patty O'Malley does, only he'll hold still for photos while I have to sneak up on her, and 2) Sweetie has speckles of white in her black fur.

I tricked Sweetie for this photo,
by using the selfie function.

Sweetie Lovin'

Pre-pet session location...
...and she's off!
Sweetie has become a real love bug, and now she even ignores Patty O'Malley when he tries to get possessive.  It's hard to take photos when you are petting a cat, but here are a few of me and Sweetie being friends.

Sweetie fur...
...all over my shirt!
Often, I sit at the top of the steps, and Sweetie head bunts my back, and rubs up on my body and arms.  Try to get a photo of that!  All the evidence I have managed so far is my shirt covered in Sweetie's black furrs.  We even managed a brushing, and the sounds of her cooing are magic to my ears!

Bella

Bella in her favorite napping spot

When I last wrote about Evie, here and here, her fate was uncertain.  My co-worker did not want to keep her, rather wishing to find another home for Evie after adopting out her two siblings.  Then the vet reported that she was blind.  Months later, and little Evie has been absorbed into the household of four-now-five cats and two dogs, and she will stay forever with my co-worker!  Called Baby Bella, she had to have her one eye removed at the same time she was spayed.  The other eye has little, if any, sight.  My friend says Bella is very friendly, and I am glad things have worked out.  I hope to visit some day soon, with my camera, to try to get some good photos of all of the menagerie!

Hurray for Baby Bella!

Black on Black

Striped Chuck
I found an informative article about how black cats get their coloring on Catster.com, The Science Behind the Fur: What Makes Black Cats Black?  In it, I found that black cats are often black-on-black tabbies!  So I dug through my photo gallery, and found one pic of Chucky that looks like he's got tabby stripes - do you see them?  National Black Cat Appreciation Day was August 17, so I'm a bit late on that, but aren't black cats wonderful?  Chucky is like a sleek, long limousine, and I love looking at Sweetie's fur, with all of the white hairs all over.

Halloween Cats

Ooh, that's scary!
Our neighborhood is getting dressed up for Halloween.  The favorite decoration...besides pumpkins...is big spiders.  The spiders are placed on fake webs, or climbing up the houses.  I dislike creepy crawlers, so I'm not fond of the "spiders from Mars" approach.  However, there are also a lot of the blow-up decorations, including these two very cool black cats shown in the photo.  And the really fun part is that their heads move, but only once in awhile.  So I am on my evening walk, and I see these cats down the street.  I look at them, and admire the fact that they are huge, black cats!  Then....one of the heads moves just a tad, and I jump out of my skin.  Haha, the joke is on me, but now every time I walk past (and I do almost every day), I wait for a head to move, then I smile to myself for my past reaction.  And isn't that part of what Halloween is all about?  A lot of treats, but a little bit of trick?
