🐉 Boat Festival

Today, 10 June, 2024, fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar, is The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as The Double Fifth Festival.

Many believe that the celebration originated in ancient China based on the suicide of the poet and statesman of the Chu kingdom, Qu Yuan in 278 BCE.

The International Dragon Boat Federation governs Dragon Boat Racing all around the world, as the International community has embraced the sport with ancient roots, while bringing it into the present and future.

How 'bout some images of wee dragons playing in teacups to celebrate?

This seems to be a popular theme, as I have many more delightful images of tiny dragons enjoying a bath in someone's hot beverage.

Maybe they are relaxing after the Dragon Boat Races?

Cat Art History: Alexander Calder

Alexander Calder, July 22, 1898 - November 11, 1976, was an Modern, Abstract, and Surrealist artist, innovating with his three-dimensional kinetic sculptures powered by motors or air currents, and his monumental public sculptures.

The artist undoubtedly studied cats, sculpting them as whimsical and playful.

Garden and Cat Tour

Last Saturday, I had the supreme pleasure of visiting a favorite garden of mine at the 11th Annual Summer Garden Tour at Black Cat Pottery!

I was very, very privileged to be able to meet her cat staff after I walked the gardens...

...and there were two more cats out of camera range as they napped under the bed.

 Very thankful to be allowed into the cat domain, as well as spending time with interesting artists, gardeners, and other cat lovers.

Thank you all for reading along with me; our trip to London and Bath was the trip of a lifetime!  Am lucky (!) to have broken my hand far enough in advance, so I was able to travel, and I cannot thank my sisters and nieces for assisting me with everything that I couldn't lift or grab.  My first trip on a double-decker bus was memorable; as I could only grab with my right hand, the bus taking off caused an impromptu pole dance!  After that, someone always stayed close enough to make sure I stayed on my feet, and I greatly appreciate everyone's tenderness and caring.
