Preliminary Results

Thank you all for your encouraging words for The PO'M!

He made his first trip to the veterinarian in a carrier, as all previous trips had been in a humane trap.

The blood tests will take a few days, but here's what we know so far:

PO'M is FIV negative.

He probably has a flea bite allergy, hence his licking and often hairball expulsion.

He's got wicked bad teeth.

WARNING: Turn volume down for video below, otherwise you'll drive your own cats crazy!

Singing the song of his people before the vet visit
Looking out of his room
Always the hair stylist!

Dental appointment is set in a few weeks, but we may move it forward, once the blood work gives us the green light.  The vet said at least three canines would go.

Paddy took the grabbing, carrier-stuffing, and being vet-handled poorly; can't say I blame him.

But, he's allowing me to pet him, smooch him, and rub his belly, so he'll be okay.

    1. I feel badly that he teeth are awful, however as an outside cat who WOULD NOT COME IN, what could I do? I love him so, so for a while, he'll have to stay in the separate room and chill. Thanks for the purrs.

  4. Poor Padster. We mustsay we are amazed at how polite and non-feral he is being. Okay, so The Song of Our People was pretty loud, but nothing hysterical. Good luck with the teefs - and we have paws crossed for good bloods.

    1. He's a bit shy, after the vet visit, however I can pet him and smooch him. Later, I'll sit in his room and see if he'll jump into my lap. When that happens, then it's all good! Thanks for caring!

  5. You have made my year! About POM'S news. There's more coming, I know but so far, so good. Our Robin had severe flea allergy. They developed the flea treatment for dogs and it took several more years before they made one for cats THEN she was all better.

    1. I discovered that the flea stuff that I've been putting on The PO'M for YEARS only kills a flea if it bites him. There are products that kill the flea if it lands on him, and that's what we need. However, he's inside now, where there are no fleas, so we'll see. Thank you for caring about Pommy!

  7. Dear Paddy: You may not like the bits in between but it looks like you are settling in to being inside and we do hope you continue. Living in a home instead of free ranging has many advantages, especially as we gain a few years on our paws. Good luck with everything going furward dear friend!

    1. Cat teeth are brittle; not sure what outside cats chew on to break them, but I'm counting the days until he can be free of the bad ones. Thank you for caring!

  17. Have them take out as many of the PO'M's teeth as they might even suspect will be bad at some time in the future; better that they go now and all at once. He doesn't seem too keen on veterinary visits...

  18. Oh, can that kitty SING or what? I hope so much he’ll be fine and as for teeth, when mama found me I had not had attention paid to my teeth and so I have very few left on the left side of my tiny mouth and none on the right. But mama has done research and found that kitties can eat just fine (no steaks) with NO teeth at all…that gives mama hope. We don’t like anesthetics for teeth cleaning but mama bought a little finger brush and I love the massage she gives me with that

P.S. My human says that if you have the energy, time and motivation (tall order, I know!), the story of POM and you would make a good book at some point in the future.
