Bad Collared Cat Mom

Our twins
Who is Whom?

Manny

Chili Bruce
Yes, I feel like a rotten, poor example of a Cat Mom.  I cannot tell Da Boyz apart since Chili Bruce lost his one white whisker, and although The Hubby claims he can...he's fibbing.  I dug through my drawer of cat goodies (which includes unopened toys waiting to be doled out, half-empty medicine bottles, and flea and tick prevention packets), and I found the velvet safety Coolcatcollars that I posted about here last year.  Manny is wearing the Blueberry Blue collar, and Chili Bruce sports the Rosewater Pink one.  In the top photo of them sleeping, you cannot even SEE the collars!  We put them on Da Boyz last night, and first thing this morning, I was able to call each cat by his rightful name without hesitation.  And other than Manny giving his new collar a good scratch, both of them seem to be unfazed.

What mother can't tell their babies apart?  A unworthy one, that's for sure!  Other than dyeing the tip of CB's ear (or bleaching it), this was the only solution I could think of.  Manny has a big white spot on his belly, and CB's fur is silkier and his tail fluffier, and he's heavier than Manny.  But I cannot pick them up to look at their undercarriage all the time, and two black cats next to each other at dawn or dusk are impossible...for me...to differentiate.

The joy of having these two brofurs in our lives, outweighs my mortification at collaring them.  They apparently don't care, and I now can tell one from the other.  And don't go all 'pink is for girls' on us; we are an open-minded, fly-the-rainbow-flag kind of tolerant household!

  4. Black kitties can wear anything and look fabulous! Nice they don't mind the collars, though :)

  5. I think it's just wonderful that humans are wisening up and realizing that pink can be worn by anypawdy. There is a lot of pink in my house. I bet the pink looks sharp on Chili with his sleek black furrs! Winky winks.

  7. Don't feel bad, I have a Mom, Maggie and her daughter, Mahoney and they look just alike. They do have some differences but I have to look hard at them to see who is who. Good idea with the collars.

  8. You *sure* the blue collar is on Manny. Heh heh.

  9. OMCs that is too funny. I guess as long as you call them to dinner they don't care what you call them.

  10. PS we have twin boys down the street. When they were young they were identical. They loved to come running up to me and say who is who. Finally them mom told me her secret. Thomas has a mole just at his hair line. That was the only difference between them. So every time they
came running I'd say...ummm lets see take your hats off so I can see your eyes. They never caught on when the were little.

  11. Aw, don't beat yourself up. Jan often confuses Micah and Percy because they're tabbies, even though they do not look exactly alike. She has to take a 2nd, perhaps a 3rd look. Your mom has an excuse - you look exactly alike.

  12. Geez, I call mine the wrong names all the time, and none of them look alike. Not to worry.

  14. Smart idea-and don't feel so bad--they really look so similar!!

  15. They do look really alike! I imagine I won’t be able to tell who is who in dawn or dusk, either.
I think pink collar is totally fine for boys :-)

  16. We were wondering how you identified them to put the collars on. Thanks for clearing that up. You can always put a little nail polish on a claw of one of the boys. And real man cats wear pink all the time. We all wear collars 24/7 with I.D. Sawyer is the only one who has ever objected, but then he's one weird dude. XOCK, angel Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy and Sawyer

  17. It's great that the boys don't mind the collars. Here, we try to back out of them so we get a pass. Bast help us if we have to evacuate and are forced to wear them!

P.S. Our mom sometimes can't tell us black boys apart either. Elliott's crunchy ear helps.

  18. My human has never had two cats that looked that much alike, which for her is a very good thing!

  19. OMC You are sooooooo funny. Me's certain you know how much our mommy luvs us. So what would you say ifin me told you that more than a few times a week she looks at us while speakin' and says, "what's your name?" You're a good mommy and don't let anypawdy tell you different. Big hugs

    Luv ya'

  20. All but one of my cats tolerated a collar, and they wore them even though they were indoor cats and microchipped. Around here, we say fly your freak flag high & proud!

  21. The collars are a great idea, especially since Da Boyz don't mind them. Our 3 pets are easy to tell apart, but we still get their names mixed up all the time. So we think we're just going to call them all Laister (Layla-Paisley-Webster) from now on!

  22. Don't worry. Even though Lexy and I look nothing alike, Mommy calls us each other's names. Imagine if we were both Tabbies????

  23. LOL, we certainly don't have that problem here, but glad you found a solution. We don't have a problem with pink--one of Benny's favorite towels was pink!

  24. Maybe that white whisker will grow back? That would help. But don't feel too bad. Peeps used to have a friend who couldn't tell their two cats at the time, Kelsey and Sadie apart. Both WERE calicoes but seriously.. Kelsey had short-hair and Sadie had super think, fluffy long fur. Plus, their markings were TOTALLY different. Now THAT'S bad. purrs

  25. I have 3 black fuzz balls and I have to collar them too. Yes in good light I can tell them apart but at all times, NO. Even with collars it can be tough as the collars disappear in their long hair.

  26. When I brought home Johnny and Cash, I couldn't tell them apart. And I forgot which cat was which even though their former guardians told me. I just picked one and said "You are Cash" and the other "You are Johnny." As they lived with me I noticed that Johnny was a bit smaller and had a small white spot on his chest. He was also the more dominant of the two. Since Johnny passed last year I find myself calling Cash by Johnny's name. I sometimes wonder if Cash is actually Johnny now.

  27. That is too funny! And you're not a bad cat mom at all!!! When we first fostered Woodrow, my hubby had a hard time because he looks a little like Dexter. Nothing like two black cats, though!
