Let's celebrate all things that make our pollinators happy!
In our yard, we have:

| Thimbleweed, which I think are adorable. |

| Penstemon or Foxglove Beardtongue, with bee friend |
 |
| Red Columbine, after flowering, look a bit outer space alien, no? |
 |
| Spiderwort, with Red-Banded Leafhopper Spiderwort is named from the super-sicky sap, which is what the Leafhopper is after. |
 |
| Early Meadow Rue, not yet flowering; those wee leaves are cute! |
Pollinators include:
Bees
Bats
Butterflies
Moths
Birds
Beetles
Ants
Flies
Wasps
I am trying to incorporate more pollinator friendly plants in our yard, too...and attempting to root out all kinds of invasive meanies that love our back woodsy area...its a never ending battle, esp against the bittersweet, which isn't the native american ones. They made several trees come down over the years, until I found out why...same with Virginia Creeper...

Beautiful plants. I was very happy yesterday to see an actual honey bee on one of my orange butterfly plants. Sometimes I have good years when there's lots and sometimes it's only the bumble bees and other miscellaneous bees

The Tradescantia or Spiderwort can be very invasive!

I had some of that pretty white penstamon, but it didn't come back (I think one of that cats actually ended it but...). I do have a hybrid purple one that's pretty spectacular, - but I love the white!
ReplyDeleteI think I am seeing more dandelions left to flower than I have in the past. That's a good sign. Mowing can be done after the blooming season.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your educational post and great photos. :D My neighbors seemed intent on killing ground bees one year so I made a large sign proclaiming their benign behavior toward humans and incredible value. And just today I saw a bumper sticker proclaiming, "Give Bees a Chance", which made me giggle. Best wishes, my dear.

ReplyDeleteAll we have is clover. I wish I had a green thumb and could cultivate more things to attract pollenators. At least we don't spray weed killer.
