Polly Want A Flower?

Let's celebrate all things that make our pollinators happy!

In our yard, we have:
Thimbleweed, which I think are adorable.
Penstemon or Foxglove Beardtongue, with bee friend
Red Columbine, after flowering, look a bit outer space alien, no?
Spiderwort, with Red-Banded Leafhopper
Spiderwort is named from the super-sicky sap, which is what the Leafhopper is after.
Early Meadow Rue, not yet flowering; those wee leaves are cute!

Pollinators include:
Bees
Bats
Butterflies
Moths
Birds
Beetles
Ants
Flies
Wasps

On Guard

It's PO'Monday!

Pics taken on 7 May, 2017.

Celestial Paddy O'Malley was all over the place, keeping an eye on his territory and on me.

Alone

It's PO'Monday!

Late October, 2013.

Celestial Pommy seemed comfortable with Autumn.

His fur colors blended well with the landscape.
While on a recent nature walk, as Mother Nature whispered into my ear with a light wind, and her palette of leaf colors dazzled my eyes, it occurred to me that I once spent hours each and every day with Paddy, out in the yard.

I'd sit on the back deck, or wander about, and he would trail me wherever I went.

Warm, cold, sunny, rainy; we were a team.

The yard is so lovely now, with yellows, reds, greens, rusts, and oranges.

But it's lonely.

Catmouflage

It's Sweetnesday!

Ahh, Sweetie...

Did her best to stay hidden as an outside cat.
And yet, there is only so much a kitty can do!

You cannot believe how grateful we are that Sweetie is an inside-only kitty now, living as a lazy, pampered housepanther.

She even has her heated Sweetie Spa plugged in, despite it being SUMMER!

Sweetie deserves every luxury that she wants.

For your Caturday amusement:

A frosty four-leafed clover!

Seems apt for the time of year, no?

New Old and New New Yard Art

Have acquired a couple of new cat items for the gardens at Eastside Cats.
An old piece that we've had for years called Ghost Cat: gifted to us by neighbors.
New to us, but old; found recently at a garage sale.
I like the sound of the bells.
This new big kitty weighs a lot!
Here he is, waiting for me to pick him up to take him home.
Kitty now enjoying himself amid the hosta leaves, placed yesterday.
Purchased last year; I'm a sucker for star/moon combinations.
Looking a bit dirty, these three metal cats were collected over the years at local art fairs.

Mama Watches Mama

It's Sweetnesday!

Our readers may not remember that she was Mama before Sweetie became her name.

Why 'Mama'?

Because she was pregnant when she first appeared in our yard.

Having been TNR'd in 2009 after her babes were born and weaned, Mama really was no longer an accurate name.

Now, she watches the world from her window perch.

Sweetie: "I'd enjoy my perch more if there wasn't a commentary going on..."
Sweetie: "Okay, if you won't quiet down, I'll just take a look-see outside!"
Mama Racoon and four wee ones!

So cute.

(The video was shot through the closed window and dirty screen, near dusk, so it's pretty grainy.)

Activity

It's Twozday!

Da Boyz enjoy the increased critter activity outside.
Backdoor viewing.
Synchronized ear front window viewing.
Once the sunshine heats up their fur, they change location to a shadier spot.
Note the wooly sock; a leftover from Celestial Chuck.

Tracks

Evidence of outside cats from this morning!
This image is taken from Sweetie's upstairs apartment window.
The cats go from under the neighbor's deck at the top of the photo, to our sump pump discharge puddle, then into our yard.
More tracks to and from the alley out back.
The sidewalk is a virtual pawprint highway!
Walkway in front of our house.
Although there are tracks, we do not often see the critters!

Are they stray cats, owned but outside cats, or feral?  Dunno yet!

I put out fresh water every morning, and will leave kibble if I see a cat in the area.

The draw is strong to the sump pump puddle, yet no one is yet making a habit of enjoying the kibble.

PO'Monday!
My computer made this 9/27/15 video for me, as a memory.

It's a bit long, but watching Paddy O'Malley make a mess while slurping water is just more proof that he was a clown.

I hadn't noticed Sweetie's blink in her section of the video, when I'd made it all those years ago, but it made my heart go pitty-pat to see it. ❤️

Four Weeks

March 13, 2020 was my last day in the office.

Since then, I've been working from home.

Knowing that my global company is safeguarding the health of their employees means a lot!

What the near and distant future will bring, we cannot know.

It is Spring; a time for rebirth, beginnings, and evolution.

The PO'M watches as The Hubby cavorts in the backyard.
The Hubby was looking for mushrooms (it's too early, but he's looking anyhow!)
The PO'M was sunbathing, and is graciously allowed us to tromp around 'his' territory.
We can succumb to worry, and to the uncertainty of life.

Or, we can rejoice in the amazing resiliency of humankind!

May you all enjoy health, strength, love, and contentment.

Sending you all a virtual hug!

Happy St. Patrick's Day Part 1

On March 19, 2012, I caught the feral tabby boy who'd been hanging around the yard for months in my drop trap.  On March 20th, I transported him to All About Animals Rescue, for neutering and a rabies shot.  While in line with other TNR people,  I told them that I'd named him Patrick O'Malley, because of his green eyes, and fur colors that matched a freshly poured pint of Guinness Stout.  Everyone assumed it was also because St. Patrick's Day had just been celebrated, but we'd been called him Patty O' for a while by then.

One of my first photos of The PO'M, late 2011

Just after release from his neuter, 2012
The PO'M quickly became a HUGE part of our lives at Eastside Cats.  Our usual daily food bowl visitor, Hobo, had stopped appearing, and we feared the worse.  We didn't know that he'd simply found a new food source down the alley at a neighbor's house!  When I finally discovered Hobo living happily and healthily about a half a block over, that feeling that I'd allowed The PO'M to supplant him eased a little.

Hobo, who disappeared for good in 2016

Although not really a St. Patrick's Day kitty, The PO'M is close enough, and it's a day to celebrate Spring, and all that Mother Nature brings to us.

Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day!

Kitty and Birdy Gifts!

"Be My Kitty!"

"My Little Sweet Tarts"

Aren't these adorable?  Cat friend BG (who introduced me to holistic Sheppard Alternative Animal Care) gave me a these two kitty figurines, for the credenza.  So cute!

(The school photo in the background is The Hubby as a boy; he's the only human in the collection!)

She also gifted me with this suet feeder, filled with soft fur materials to hang up for the birds to use. Not sure when to hang it up (now, wait until Spring?), but I will attach it as high and as far away from Patty O'Malley and Sweetie as I can!

How cool are these gifts?  Do my friends know me, or what?  Thank you, BG!
