Staying Dry

February 10 is National Umbrella Day!
When I visited England a few years ago, I was chuffed to have remembered a mini-umbrella, which I carried in my tote bag every day, all day.

The only time it rained, however, was when we were touring the city of Bath, and it was such a light drizzle that I didn't even use it.

To keep the sun off myself, I wear a hat with a wide brim.

If you look in the back seat of The Cat Car, you'll find two or three compact umbrellas, just in case.

And you'll never guess how many times I've been caught in the rain while on my 'hood walks!

Yet, if I anticipate rain and grab my umbrella...it rarely actually rains.

*shrug*

Eclipse

I've taken a vacation day from work.

The Hubby and I will drive from home in Michigan to some point in Ohio nearest 100% totality.
The trip by The Cat Car will take about about an hour.

Once the sun is again full in the sky, we'll drive back home again.

A once-in-a-lifetime event for us.

Have the glasses, along with a filter for my iPhone.

A full tank of gas, snacks, and maybe a handful of CD's to enjoy...road trip!

To The Rescue!

I take walks in my neighborhood.

Daily, and sometimes twice a day.

About 30-35 minutes for the loop.

Old Guy, on his porch.
Yesterday, about 10 minutes into my walk, I stopped to visit with a neighbor cat friend.

Old Guy (image above) is living on her front porch, and there are others who use her garage and back stoop.

She and I chatted about everything cat under the sun, and more.

I finally set off again on my walk, and just as I was about six houses from home, The Hubby drove up in Cat Car II!

He'd set out to find me, since I'd been gone for over an hour.

Isn't that sweet?

Years ago, I tripped on uneven concrete, fell, and ended up with four fractures in my left hand, with a clunk on my head AND a scraped up knee.

The Hubby remembers that incident, and felt it prudent to look for me...just in case.

My fault for not answering my phone (had it on silent) when he called to check in.

Whoops!

Sorry, dear...and thank you for attempting to rescue me.

April Fool!

Well, we must respect Mother Nature, despite the curveballs she throws at us!
Eastside Cats is thankful for the roof over our heads, the ability to afford an automobile, and to buy food for ourselves and our cat family.

Thankful Thursday

I am beyond thankful today for my sister, MY.

This morning, I poured out my feelings about the swift changes in my life: job, car, Angel's health, and why winter is such a bummer!

She listened, counselled, and gave me a few "You've got this, girl!"

😽💗😽

Also, there are tangible items to be grateful for, because we currently have the means to.

An original painting, purchased at a local store on my lunch break:

I mean, how the heck could I have passed this up?
Artist: Smykman Primitives

And, a sweatshirt with Pawfficer Donut's adorable image!

If you want to order for yourself, here's the link:

Thankful Thursday: Farewell Cat Car #1

How can I be thankful for saying farewell?

Because, if Cat Car #1 had not protected The Hubby...

He was stopped at a red light, when he was rear ended by a driver who did not brake.  The impact pushed Cat Car #1 into the car ahead, and that one into the car in front too.

Almost appears to be smiling...😿

Both driver's and passenger airbags deployed, even though The Hubby was the only inhabitant.

Not fixable!
The Hubby has a couple of bruises, and a swollen finger, but is otherwise alright.
He's mad and sad that our beloved car is wrecked.
I am thankful that only the car was damaged; the human contents are invaluable!

The funny thing about this (because, we have to laugh at something!), is that The Hubby had just finished our laundry at the laundromat, so three baskets of clean clothes were sent flying on impact!  Lucky for him, none of my ladies unmentionables were found hanging off the rearview mirror, to embarrass him when the police arrived!

Therefore, Farewell, old Cat Car, but thank you for doing your job!

Cat Car #2 has been on the job since October.
I so loved having matchy matchy cars!

The Cat Car is Unofficial

In September, 2017, I was excited to add a cat car magnet to The Cat Car.

I posted about it here: The Cat Car Is Official.  Caren and Cody from Cat Chat warned me about becoming a bit too eccentric, with stickers and magnets all over my ride!  The Hubby too, was unhappy with one magnet, because he drives my car around once in awhile.  However, I put my foot down...I wanted cat stuff on The Cat Car!

Meow magnet, purchased while at Mall of America
in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2017.
Then, in November, 2017, I added two more really cool cat car magnets!  I posted about them here: Cat Are Aliens.

Each found online!
As time has marched on, having stuff plastered all over the car has lost its appeal.  Other drivers do weird things around crazy cat lady autos; they tailgate too close, they cut in front too fast, and there have been more obnoxious acts by fellow drivers than previously!  When The Hubby recently removed the magnets to give The Cat Car a wash, I asked him to bring the magnets inside to attach to the refrigerator.  My little old Honda is now bare, and she's going to stay that way.

Yep, Caren and Cody...you were right!

Tee-Hee Thursday

Patty O'Malley (The PO'M) is beyond adorable!  These photos were snapped this morning, as I was supposed to be entering The Cat Car for my commute to the office.  But how could I, with such rampant silliness and adorableness at my feet?  One cannot hold onto sadness for long, when The PO'M turns his goofy dial up to 11!

Cats Are Aliens...Don't Read This Post, Cat Chat!

Cat Chat With Caren And Cody was concerned when I showed off The Cat Car's Meow magnet after my Mee-owww! post two weeks ago.  There was worry that I would begin to cover my vehicle with all manner of 'crazy cat person' items, making me a target of foolish people as I maneuver 'round the streets of Metro Detroit.

Cool, man!

Peace!

Cats are from outer space, after all!
So, here is my warning...more magnets have already been purchased!  The peace sign was The Hubby's idea; he ALWAYS kids me about being a 'hippie-wannabe'.  He, of course, was the real deal, such as not wearing shoes for an entire summer!

And, if you know me at all, you know that I believe that cats are from outer space, 'cause that's the ONLY way to explain what they do.  I also have a bumper sticker that reads: "Wear Your Seatbelt!  It Makes it Harder for the Aliens to Suck You Out of Your Car!", which was purchased in Roswell, New Mexico.  Yes, I visited the very epicenter of UFO/alien phenomena.

Aliens and Cats...they are the same thing, in my book

P.S. I am just kidding, Caren and Cody!

"Mee-OWWW!"

While driving The Cat Car the other day, I heard a really loud, "MEE-OWW!" from somewhere outside!  I looked up into the rear-view mirror, and saw two women on motorcycles behind me.  This is the photo I tried to snap of them, without them knowing...ya know whatImean?  Inside the red circle:
"Say Wha?!?"

Obviously, they were reacting to my 'MEOW' magnet!

Meow Magnet on the back of The Cat Car
The women didn't seem to be making fun or being sarcastic...they were just meowing, prompted by the magnet.  I can live with that!

The Hubby claims that while driving The Cat Car a week ago, a person a nearby vehicle had a passenger with their hands up like claws, mimicking a cat pawing at the window.  I think that's cute!

Wonder what will happen when I get MORE cat stickers and magnets on The Cat Car?

The Cat Car is Official!

"MEOW!"
Much to The Hubby's chagrin, I purchased an official cat lady magnet for The Cat Car.  He truly believes that people will now try to run me off of the road, just because of it!  But...let's face it...they try to run me off the road anyhow, as The Cat Car is a tiny, cute little automobile, while the preponderance of vehicles out there are big, hulking SUVs, mini-vans, and 'pick-em-up-trucks'.  I am simply a speck to be swatted out of the way when they want to speed!

I drive smartly and defensively, but stay out of the way of kooks. Been driving for 30 plus years, and I love driving The Cat Car.  So nimble, and it sips gasoline. The Hubby tries to 'borrow' it all of the time, then I have to fight him to get it back!  "Go get your own Cat Car!," I say.

I love my 'Meow' magnet, and have plans for a cat-themed license plate for the front bumper...but don't let The Hubby know about that!

Sunbeam Kitty

As I climbed into The Cat Car this morning, I spied Sweetie enjoying a sunbath in the morning light.
"Hiya, Sweetie!  Looking good!"

Close Up
When I stepped closer, there was Patty O'Malley, napping on the feeding station in the sunshine too.

Missing Cat: A Re-creation

We lost Chucky this morning.  Looked high and low...he was gone! Disappeared!  Vamoosed!

Then, I opened the coat closet, and out he ran!  I've recreated the scene here, while NOT at home:

Our closet at home is a french door
Recreation of closet door opening!

City The Kitty looks fierce!
Recreation of cat leaving the closet!
(Using City the Kitty's calendar, without permission...)
As I left the house and jumping into The Cat Car, I managed to snap a couple of photos of a long black cat in high dudgeon, now hiding in the bay window.

The view from The Cat Car
The view from the inside of my car

"I'm gonna hork up a hairball on your pillow for that!"
Chuck looking back at me with a pitiful
look on his face...but maybe that was
because of my reflection in the glass
or the peeling paint?
Apparently, he snuck into the coat closet when I opened it to hang my coat up after feeding The 'O' Cats.  Usually, that coat closet door stays open a wee bit open, so Chuck probably thought he could get out again, but I had done a good job of closing it.

Poor Chucky!  But, it was only 20 minutes of incarceration!  I think he hates me...

"Don't Leave Me!"

As I exited the house this morning, Patty O'Malley dropped and rolled on the driveway behind The Cat Car.  Tried to get some good photos of him, because he was being cute but...

He was telling me that staying home to pet him should be my only goal in life!  Oh, baby, how I would love that life.

Happy Weekend, everybody!
