Meowy Catmas!

While those in the Northern Hemisphere are hunkered down, avoiding the cold and snow,
we at Eastside Cats wish all a joyous season, and hopes for a wonderful 2023.

Those Were The Days

It's Sweetnesday!

A strong cold front barreled across the state yesterday, bringing bitter temps and high winds.

Watching Sweetie snuggled warm in her Sweetie Spa, brought memories of her existence as an 'O' Cat, and I leafed through the photo library to pick a few December images of those bygone days.
Sweetie is not easy to photograph; she wasn't then, and she isn't now.

But by gosh, I love her dearly, and am honored to be her human forever.

Snow and Cold

It's PO'Monday!

It's gotten cold here, and although we've had some snow, thankfully the sidewalks are clear.

The PO'M was in his element in Winter, I'd always believed.

Today's images are from 2014, about this same time of year, and with the same type of weather.
Didn't he look fine?

A Day Without

It's Sweetnesday!

Last Saturday, we had severe winds, with gusts that brought down part of a HUGE Maple tree in a neighbor's yard:
Tree fell across neighbor's garage and cars, then over the alley...
(Close up of smushed van)
...into our next-door neighbor's backyard!
We did NOT lose power at this time; that occured when someone else's tree lay across the wires a little while later.

Luckily, we were without electricity for only a day.

The Hubby and I put on our winter coats, and drank plenty of hot beverages.

Da Boyz curled up together, but poor Sweetie was without her Sweetie Spa heated beddy!
She tried to stay warm under the blanket, but it was unsatisfactory.
That night, she crawled on top of me, to use my body heat.

When I awoke, she was on my head!
Sweetie: "I'm in my Sweetie Spa, and no one is allowed to make it go cold again!"

Our prayers go out to those in Kentucky and elsewhere, who were severely affected by same storm system, to much more devastating results.

A day without power means nothing, when we still have a roof over our heads.

Sunny Tabby

PO'Monday!

Although it's bright and sunny, the temperatures are cold.  The PO'M likes to sit on my lap and drowse.

My effort at being a convenient cat bed wars with my personal need to be warm, but I tough it out, as The PO'M is a somewhat oversized heaty pad...

I often conduct phone conversations while he rests in my lap like this.

We all are hopeful for warmer days ahead.

Thankful Thursday: The 'O' Cats

Yesterday morning at 8 am
Minus 4 F

Today, at 8 am
Minus 12 F

I am so very thankful that The 'O' Cats seem to be making it through this frigid weather.  Am also thankful that The Cat Car has been able to get me to and from the office.

We still aren't out of the woods yet, folks, so please continue to be very careful with yourselves and your human and furry families.

Too-Cold-To-Head-Bunt Tuesday

"I'm fine!  See you later!"
The PO'M wouldn't come out of his suite in The Cat Hotel this morning!  Usually, if I'm around, he's rubbing on me, meowing at me, head-bunting my hands...but today was just too cold, so he winked at me instead!  Mind you, this was as I was leaving for the office; he and Sweetie had already eaten their breakfast.

Welcome 2018!...well, sorta...

Folks, we are in bitter cold in Michigan.  I've spent my holiday time off from work keeping warm, visiting with friends, and hanging out with The Hubby, family...and Angel, Manny and Chili Bruce.  One complete day was spent in my pajamas!

I wanted to hang out with The 'O' Cats too, but the brutal temperatures allowed me to only stand for as long as I can pet them, feed them bowls of kibble, and break off the ice in their water bucket, replacing it with fresh.

There are a lot of posts to come, but for now I'll simply leave you with The PO'M and Sweetie soaking in some warm sunshine while eating their dinner.

Or go here: https://youtu.be/ydIPf9pdats

Hope you all had an enjoyable holiday season!

Now come on, 2018...do we really have to be colder than ALASKA?!?

Chuck's Diary Entry: March 13, 2017

Dear Diary,

The cold continues, but my humans are having more fun than they should!  While I and sissy Angel curl up in tight balls to sleep away the chill, the human called The Hubby is busily heating pots on the stove with hot water, then setting them around as mini-radiators.  This way, we've stayed relatively comfy.  The human called The Mom goes out every day to earn green papers or go off gallivanting.  She even had her head fur trimmed, but never showed it to us because it was too cold and she kept her hat on the whole time!

Scroll your mouse over each photo for more news.

Saturday morning temps were cold!

The Hubby's version of steam radiators in the dining room

Big pots full of water, keeping the house warmish!

The Mom won't show off her new hairdo!

Angel keeps an eye on everything!

It's me, Chucky...sniffing at the camera
And yet I am still frisky, and demand some kibble at every chance...even though The Humans tell me that I am not allowed kibble.  I WANT SOME, since I can see that my outside friends get to eat it!  I meow and whine, and dance around the kitchen.  The Mom thinks she can put me off by sprinkling more nutritional yeast on my wet food, and yes, it mollifies me for a moment...but I'll keep trying no matter what!  The Hubby found an old battery-powered radio, and some old speakers so they can listen to music or NCAA basketball games.  I enjoyed the music, even with The Mom caterwauling about Free Birds and Zeppelins and some other human named Bob Seger. She even danced around Angel, making screechy noises along with Frampton...what the heck is a Frampton?  I covered my eyes with my paw at that point, folks!

The Mom here!

The Hubby has gone all 'Jeremiah Johnson' on us; keeping things warm and a steady stream of food...yum!  The power company reports that we should have power by 11:30 PM tonight.  Since we are currently experiencing snow flurries and wind, it sure will be nice to having the heat on!  Patty and Sweetie are doing fine without their warming pad; here are some photos of them sunning themselves yesterday (before the snow) in the neighbor's garden.

Alberta Clipper

Kitty paw prints in the front yard

Kitty prints on the side of the house

Patty O'Malley, greeting me this morning
Sweetie did not come out of The Cat Hotel for breky today, probably on account of the Alberta Clipper that swooped in from Canada, bringing wind and deep cold.  Patty, of course, rarely avoids a) a meal or b) being with me.  Looks like he's been investigating all 'round the house, snow or no. The 'O' Cats will be on kibble rations for a while; it's too cold for wet food, which starts to freeze up before the cats can get more than a few mouthfuls.  Over the years, The Hubby and I have tried: heated bricks, heated bowls, and bowls served in cardboard boxes to retain heat.  None really work in the deep cold, so kibble is it.

Angel's Got a Brand New Bed

Eastside Cats received some coolio stuff this weekend, one of which was this really groovy scratcher/cat bed.  Angel fell in love immediately, and it did not take long for us humans to take advantage of having our sweet girl so close at hand!
Yep, that's The Hubby's paws all over
Angel.  She didn't mind one bit!

Later on, she was able to enjoy
the new beddy while solo
(except for me with the camera!)

Finally, she napped with her head on the edge.
The photos are blurry 'cause I was taking them at night!

Also, our section of Michigan received some snow this weekend, but it was strangely chunky snow...more like pellets that flakes!
Another poor photo of snow pellets on the front steps.
Temps are on the downturn, and a new blast of snow is predicted for late tonight and most of the morning tomorrow.  Stay safe out there, friends!  Thank you, CG!

"Baby, It's Cold Outside"

The wind chill was -2 degrees F!

When I stepped outside to walk to The Cat Car, Patty O'Malley gave me a very nice send-off:

Every photo is blurry!  That's because it was TOO COLD OUT to do anything slowly; he and I petted each other, and I dove into The Cat Car to get the engine started for some HEAT!  I begged Patty to go with me, but he chose to stay behind and finish off the kibble before it turned white with frost and cold.  You can see the rising sun, coloring Patty's fur with shades of orange.  Yay, sunshine!  Boo, cold and frozen!
